**SPOTLIGHT** Vicious Cosplay

Posted by D Brooks Photo82 on July 8, 2014 at 6:20 PM Comments comments (0)

I first came across Vicious at my first con, Icon 31, she was running/judging the cosplay contest and masquerade. Through-out the next two years I would see her at many more events/cons doing the same. She put alot of detail into her craftsmanship. I always look for to seeing what she does next.

Vicious Cosplay is a New Jersey based cosplayer, costumer, designer, programmer, an...

SpringfestNY 2014, Artist Experience

Posted by Katalyst on July 7, 2014 at 11:45 AM Comments comments (0)

After attending enough cons I've seen many artist tables. This inspired me to make my own artist table for SpringfestNY 2014. I wanted to sell my creations and was curious as to if they were interesting enough to sell. I prepared a number of colorful and fun items to sell for the convention. I soon learned the value of creating something and deciding on a price for it. I definitely became much more understan...

This year's AnimeNEXT was AnimeBEST

Posted by Katalyst on July 7, 2014 at 11:35 AM Comments comments (0)

As a recurring attendee at AnimeNEXT, I want to start off with saying that this year’s convention was the friendliest. I’m not saying that any previous AnimeNEXTs were unfriendly or bad, I’m simply saying that this year’s was even better! Every time I took a break from walking around the center people would give me a friendly and familiar hell...

Review by Oliver R. Fitzsimmons

'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is a 2014 superhero sci-fi film; adapted from the 1981 Uncanny X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Directed by Bryan Singer, it is the seventh film in the X-Men film series and the third X-Men film directed by Singer after 2000's 'X-Men' and 2003's 'X2'.

It is difficult to prop...

'Epic' Review

Posted by Ollons on July 11, 2013 at 5:25 AM Comments comments (0)

By Oliver R. Fitzsimmons

'Epic' (stylised as 'epic') is a 2013 computer animated epic (ha!) fantasy-adventure comedy film. I do not like the grandiose title, but I suppose the children's book by William Joyce, on which the film is loosely based, has a rather awkward title The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. So, while the title...

'Pacific Rim' Review

Posted by Ollons on July 11, 2013 at 5:15 AM Comments comments (0)

By Oliver R. Fitzsimmons

'Pacific Rim' is a 2013 apocalyptic sci-fi mecha monster movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. The largest and most intentional basis of the film is on Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos, such as a dimensional rift at the bottom of the ocean, as well as the monsters sent via it. If you don't know what that is... go and read a damn book!

World War Z movie review

By Joseph Dinh

3.5 stars or 7.5/10

'World War Z' is a 2013 film adaptation of Max Brooks' zombie apocalypse novel of the same name. However, it is a loose adaptation; therefore, purist fans of the novel may be disappointed. About half (maybe 3/4) of zombie apocalypse films are set mostly after the downfall of humanity; however, this film occurs entirely during the commencement of collapse.

The movie, as many of its genre, begins rather generically; a montage of routine moder...

Castle Point Anime Convention

Running on no sleep from the previous day I wasn't sure if I was going to make it through the convention. CastlePoint Anime Convention(CPAC) was started in 2008 by Stevens Institute of Technology anime club and student volunteers in Hoboken, NJ.

It's a smaller con held on the campus of the college. If you are going to attend it would be wise to take public transportation because parking is scarce, we were lucky to get offered a parking pass. We arri...

Doctor Who, Series 7, Episode 13

Now so much a review as a subjective opinion piece of a TV episode for a change. Also more esoteric. With more spoilers.

The Name of the Doctor

I have very mixed feelings about this episode.

It began with a flash forward, with narration by companion Clara, as she talks about being "the Impossible Girl." I'...
